Our story
Why Wholesome Helpers exists
A personal journey, a community that grew by word of mouth, and a small team building something carefully.
About the founder
My appreciation for household helpers began long before Wholesome Helpers had a name.
Born and raised in Houston, Texas, I was once a mother working full-time with a two-month-old baby, two other young children, and a husband working overseas. Like many mothers, I believed that constant exhaustion was simply part of raising a family. Over time, the strain took a toll on my health.
Years later, after joining my husband in Saudi Arabia, I remember having dinner at a neighbor's home. Everyone was enjoying the conversation while a helper supported the meal and the children were cared for. What stayed with me was seeing parents able to sit, relax, and be present. I began to understand how much difference another pair of hands could make.
That understanding became deeply personal when I employed my first helper.
One evening after dinner, I got up knowing the kitchen still needed cleaning before another early morning of lunchboxes and school preparations. When I walked in, she was already washing the last pot.
I became tearful and hugged her. She looked surprised; to her, she was simply finishing the dishes. To me, she had lifted a weight I had grown so accustomed to carrying that I barely noticed it anymore.
Reliable support gave me more room to care for my health, practice my faith, and spend time with my family without mentally running through everything still waiting to be done. It gave me a lasting appreciation for the women whose work makes that possible—many of whom are living far from their own families to support them.
My experience finding help in the UAE also showed me how difficult the process could be. Misleading information, false references, and unexpected complications made it hard to know whom to trust. Through Sarah, my longstanding Ugandan helper, I also came to understand more about the difficulties helpers themselves faced while searching for work.
With encouragement from Sarah and her sister, I began welcoming helpers into my home to interview them, offer practical guidance, and help them present their experience to prospective employers. What began as something I did alongside my own work and family responsibilities gradually grew through word of mouth.
There came a point when the requests became more than I could manage alone. When I considered stepping back, messages from helpers and employers reminded me how much these connections had mattered in their lives.
Those messages encouraged me to establish the Wholesome Helpers WhatsApp community, where employers could share personal referrals alongside the profiles I screened myself.
Today, this website is the next step in making that work more accessible and sustainable, bringing together clearer information, screening, reference checks, and practical learning opportunities.
My purpose remains personal: to help families find the support they need, while recognizing the dignity, effort, and aspirations of the people who provide it.

The person behind the platform
Behind the Wholesome Helpers platform is Papius, a developer whose talent, initiative, and kindness made an extraordinary impression on me before we ever began working together.
After nearly a year of trying to build the website myself, exploring different tools, and speaking with many developers, I was preparing to move forward with a development team. Then an unexpected act of kindness changed everything.
A helper urgently needed money for transport to a job trial the following morning. I was unable to send her money since she could only receive it by Ugandan Mobile Money. I asked in a small WhatsApp group whether anyone could send the money through that service and I could reimburse them by bank transfer.
Papius stepped forward.
We had never been formally introduced. A helper I had previously supported had added him to the group after attending one of his computer classes. He immediately sent the mobile money to the helper, I reimbursed him, and we began talking.
When I learned that he developed websites, I shared my vision for Wholesome Helpers. His clear communication, thoughtful questions, and enthusiasm immediately caught my attention. He understood what I wanted to build and why it mattered.
That evening, I sent him my detailed project plan. By the following morning, he had prepared a 34-page visual proposal showing how he envisioned bringing it to life.
With each conversation, my confidence in him grew. After prayer and careful consideration, I entrusted him with the project—a decision I am very grateful for.
Throughout the development, Papius has brought dedication, creativity, and care to the work. He listens closely, translates complex requirements into practical features, and contributes thoughtful ideas that strengthen the platform. His professionalism, commitment and brilliance have repeatedly exceeded my expectations.
What makes this especially meaningful to me is that Papius is a young Ugandan building his career in the UAE, far from his home country. After years of supporting Ugandan helpers in finding opportunities, I could never have imagined that someone connected to that same community would play such an important role in bringing my own vision to life.
I reached out to help someone take her next step, and unexpectedly met the person who would help me take mine.
I am proud to introduce Papius as the developer behind Wholesome Helpers, and grateful for the talent and heart he has brought to it.

New, and growing carefully.
Wholesome Helpers is a young, independent startup, not a big company, and this website is brand new. To keep the integrity of what we do, we are growing carefully: we choose each screener one by one, for their care and dedication. That means new screened profiles are added step by step, and every one gets the same careful attention. We go above and beyond for every family and every helper, our team is growing, and we would love your support and patience in this exciting process.
