Check the visa first
In the UAE, a helper may only work for an employer when their visa and permit allow it. Before any trial, ask about the helper's visa status and check with MOHRE or a licensed Tadbeer centre how a trial can be arranged for that situation. Some Tadbeer centres offer arrangements designed for trials.
Agree the details in advance
- How long the trial lasts and the dates
- Working hours, rest time and the day off
- Duties during the trial
- Pay for the trial days, agreed before the trial starts
- Accommodation and meals if the helper stays with you
During the trial
Show the helper your routines rather than expecting them to guess. Give feedback kindly and early. Remember that the helper is also deciding whether your home is right for them.
At the end of the trial
Tell the helper your decision clearly and pay what you agreed. If you go ahead, arrange the contract and visa through the official channels. On Wholesome Helpers, members can report a trial or hire in My Helpers so other families see accurate availability.
The probation period
Separate from an informal trial, the domestic worker law allows a probation period of up to six months once the contract starts. Ask MOHRE or your Tadbeer centre how probation works for your contract.
Common questions
How long should a trial be?
Many families choose a few days to a week, long enough to see a normal routine. Agree the length and pay before it starts.
